We recently had a visit from Chris Knoll, President of Ovation Productions. He introduced us to a remarkable new game, The Tower of Mystery, and he was kind enough to walk us through the game personally. We, of course, immediately snagged a supply for the shop.

The Tower of Mystery is a fun, freewheeling game with simple rules and fast-paced play. It's not high strategy, but it has a high fun quotient and doesn't require hours of explanation. Unique facets of the game make turning the tables a regular event. Players march through multiple levels of the Tower, exploring secret passages and even teleporting from one place to another, collecting tower Turret Tokens, Tower Bucks, and Mystery Cards.
Certain aspects of gameplay are allowed at any time, even on another player's turn. When a player has a token from each of the 4 turrets, as well as a set of Mystery Cards that spell the word "T - O - W - E - R," then that player declares his or her status and the endgame begins. If the declaring player can make it back to the Garden with tokens and cards intact, the game is over and that player wins. However, other players can make that movement difficult by blocking moves, teleporting the player's token elsewhere, capturing the player's Mystery Cards, and so on.
Since the winning player must have the five Mystery Cards and four Tower Tokens upon returning to the Garden, the path is perilous. If another player manages to declare, the undeclared players have even more problems on their hands.
The Tower of Mystery is a boardgame for 2 to 8 players, ages 8 and up. Everything needed to play, including a set of unique dice, is in the box. No addons or expansions are currently available, and nothing else is required to play the game. Play time is quoted as "30 minutes per player," suggesting that a game with 4 players would average about 2 hours. MSRP for The Tower of Mystery is USD $39.95
